Breastfeeding Moms Need Kudos

Have you ever walked by a mom who was breastfeeding? What did you do? I used to always pretend I didn’t see because I didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable. Now, I walk up and give her a thumbs up or a “great job” – I want her to know that I am impressed with what she is doing and that she should feel proud! I have heard of so many stories from moms who were motivated by being given complements for nursing in public – so many who felt uncomfortable and after the complement felt so great!

The next time when you walk by a nursing mom, please take five seconds to give her your vote of confidence. And please leave us a comment on this post letting us know how you have offered kudos to someone or how someone offered kudos to you!

Best comment I ever had was when feeding my daughter at another baby’s christening.

I had positioned myself behind a pillar in the cathedral and the church warden came up to me and said how great it was to see someone feeding properly and how calm it was keeping my daughter. I’d been unsure about feeding her in public and this was a great confidence boost. She was only a couple of months old then – later I fed her (and then her brother) anywhere!

I love this post – and I think it’s awesome that you encourage moms in this way. I always try to smile and be extra friendly when I see a mom who is nursing too. :)
