It is very difficult. If you want a more "toothpaste" tasting safe toothpaste, I recommend Toms of Maine. My son doesn't like it - so we go with the fruity kinds - but I don't think any of the natural ones have fluoride. If you want just a little bit of fluoride - you could also use a fluoride free toothpaste, but then give your child water with fluoride added. I personally try to avoid all artificial sweeteners, but i didn't realize that they were putting them into kids toothpastes until after I was using it, and teaching my girls to brush their teeth. Needless to say, we switched mid-tube.
