Hello all! For those of you had a good laugh reading about my Mommy Brain stories, I just wanted to give you an update about the speeding ticket court date. I had my follow-up (appeal) date today and I was so nervous about how I was going to explain to the judge that I had "Mommy Brain" and that is how I forgot to show up for my original court date. Luckily, I didn't have to. The police officer who gave me the ticket wasn't in court, so I was able to leave and my appeal was approved!! It was really the best of both worlds. On one hand, I would have loved to see how the judge responded to my story (did he have kids, did his wife have mommy brain??) but on the other hand, I am so thankful that I didn't have to find out!! Hope you are all having a great day!! Judy - still trying to recover from Mommy Brain after 3.5 years!!

Have you ever read, "Mommy Brain: How Motherhood Makes Us Smarter?" It's a great read about how the brain changes after having (or adopting) a baby. It's such a neat read. Made me feel so much better about occasionally being forgetful. We tend to forget because we have so much to remember after having kids, but the brain actually changes and creates new pathways. We may feel forgetful, but the brain actually does MORE.

Oh and I'll point out that I had a luncheon yesterday which I COMPLETELY forgot about until this morning. :-)

My mommy brain is one of the main things that's stressing me out about going back to work in a few months. I tend to forget things/conversations/meetings at the best of times, and my work moves pretty fast, and is based on lots of informal type conversations and relationships. I'm worried. I hate being unprofessional. I like the idea to email info to myself, as I'll have a blackberry, and I'm in the habit of using my email as a record of everything, so maybe that will help.

Great blog post! I will remind my patients' moms that mommy brain is an "advantage in the lifelong task of becoming smart." Sometimes it doesn't feel that way....

The funniest thing I think I did was trying to use the breastpump without putting the bottles on it. I couldn't figure out why my legs were soaking wet. Not to mention I was still so fat that those were the only pair of pants I could wear. I am sure there is more but that is the one I remember the most. I actually saw Dr. Oz talking about the preggo brain and the reason for it. He said that the growing baby pulls dha and ara from the mother's brain and that it is why it is hard to remember things while you are pregnant. I wonder if it the same when you are breastfeeding. Add the sleep deprivation to the mix and it makes total sense.
