I had my son while my husband was in Iraq. Despite a unknowledgeable lactation consultant breastfeeding was harder than it should have been to start. But after a month of pumping and trying to get him to latch I finally got it! We had to quit at 4 months because he lost weight. My milk ran out probably due to stress from my husband being away. I am pregnant again and have done the reading and know what I’m doing now to help the new baby learn to latch properly. And surprise surprise my husband will be deployed to Iraq yet again just our luck. But I have some tricks up my sleeve like drinking enough water and making oatmeal cookies.

Congrats on your pregnancy! Since your husband will be away while you are pregnant and possible when your new baby is due, I highly recommend hiring a Doula to be with you during your birth.
